MONIQUE BURR FOUNDATION FOR CHILDREN, INC.
Our Mission: To give hope in the lives of children
The Monique Burr Foundation for Children, Inc. (MBF, Inc.) is a tax exempt 501(c)(3) charitable organization that provides abuse prevention programs, raises funds and coordinates with existing organizations to develop programs that provide hope to neglected and abused children. The foundation was created to honor the memory and compassion of Monique Burr, a passionate advocate of children in Northeast Florida, who was tragically killed in an automobile accident in 1996.
• In Florida, a child is abused or neglected every four minutes.
| • The number of child abuse reports has increased at a rate of more than 6% each year since 1999. | • There are over 200,000 child abuse reports each year. |
• More than 85% of child abuse fatalities occur in children under the age of four.
• Florida spends more than 95% of the Family Safety Budget to investigate, intervene and treat the impact of child abuse and neglect and less than 5% to prevent the tragedy of child abuse and neglect from occuring.
• One in four children will experience some form of sexual assault before the age of 18. Tragically nearly 90% of those children are assaulted by someone the child knows - not a stranger.
